Good morning and welcome to my website. What a fortuitous day for a student, teacher, and writer of history to introduce a website—the 25th anniversary of the attacks on the United States known as 9/11. Like most of us who were witness to the horror unfolding on that tragic day, I remember it well. It was a few minutes before 9:00 a.m. EST. I was standing outside of my classroom in the Intermediate Building of the Seneca Valley School District in Western Pennsylvania, greeting students who were entering my second period U.S. History class. Suddenly, a senior high student—a former student of mine—stopped to ask me if I heard about the plane that had crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. Immediately, I entered my classroom and turned on the television to view CNN. It was 9:03 a.m. and the television screen was broadcasting the mindboggling images from New York City live. My students and I were watching black smoke billowing from the North Tower when suddenly we witnessed the second hijacked airplane—United Airlines Flight 175—strike the South Tower. We couldn’t believe our eyes. Of course, as the day and weeks progressed, nothing was of the ordinary. As I told my students that day on September 11, 2001, “The world had suddenly changed.”
